The new ethical principles reflect a duty to "know each customer, treat them fairly, keep their money safe, communicate openly and truthfully, and act in their best interests".

This requirement was added following a consultation with the CLC’s consumer reference group. The new ethical standards reflect a similar duty that has long been placed on financial services firms by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

A steady rate of conveyancing and probate solicitors are continuing to switch to CLC regulation. As such, the CLC plans to promote the CLC qualification to continue increasing the pipeline of new licensed conveyancers and increase the CLC regulated community.

The regulator has also published a strategic plan for 2023-25 that sets out its' ambitions to further improve legal services to conveyancing clients, confidence in the sector, and reduce its share of the unit cost of regulation and “bringing its specialist regulation of conveyancing and probate to bear on a larger part of the market”.
