Review: I worked alongside Latham & Co through I horrible time in my life to complete divorce proceedings. Not only did the obvious legal side of it but the empathy shown throughout made it so much easier. Thanks again.

Review: I used Latham & Co for the purchase of my first home. I was under the impression my purchase would have gone through fast: I was the only applicant, my mortgage was already almost completed very early on, the property I was buying was empty and the sellers wanted a quick sale, this was not the case. It took over 5 months to complete. They were so slow, and their communication methods of chasing other solicitors and management companies was so delayed it was far too time consuming. Even though I didn't struggle to hear back from my solicitor, I always received I reply within 24 hours, they barely answered my questions when I tried to nudge for more information and the same lines were practically written on repeat as if to catch me out. They didn't communicate with my estate agent who was acting as the 'middle man' for me instead I was chasing my solicitor and then chasing my estate agent to chase the sellers solicitor. Buying your first home is stressful enough, I'm only 23 so I felt like I was already inexperienced but their replies and updates did not make it any easier. When it finally came to the week of the completion, the sellers and I were pestering our solicitors to exchange contracts within enough time of completing but they decided between themselves to ignore our instructions and only exchanged a day before completion. Also Whenever paperwork was sent to me, it was either via post which gets very confusing and messy or via email, the files were sometimes upside down, corners missing and just as difficult to keep organised. This solicitors needs to update their processes to keep up with the times, I think it will increase efficiency and keep their clients more happy. Just be honest instead of telling them what they want to hear. Its currently just too slow. Furthermore I think that if a solicitor already has too many cases in the in-tray, don't take on more then it won't take 5 months when actually it could have taken much less. I'm finally about to move into my first home and as horrible as this experience has been, I am so glad it's over. If you want to use this agency, proceed with caution that it might be VERY slow.
